Five stones totalling around 200Kg were discovered at different times between 1845 and 1902 in County Townsend, Australia. The original classification given to this chondrite was L4, but it has now been re-classified and listed in the 5th edition Catalogue of Meteorites as an L3....L3.8 to be exact.
Cut sections of this meteorite are visually stunning; many small and large white chondrules are set in a dark matrix that seems to show distinct chondrule-rich and chondrule-poor regions. Many of the chondrules are "armoured" and encased in a coat of iron - one of the nicest examples of chondrules.
